A disappointed Madonna returned to London childless after the Malawian government rejected her plea to adopt 4-tear-old orphan Chifundo Mercy James. The Malawian court fears that supporting such an adoption bid would result in the trafficking of Malawian children. The pop star’s adoption attempt caused a furor in the small African country, especially among the nation’s NGOs, who want to see the child reunited with her own family.
Madonna and her former husband Guy Ritchie have already adopted David Banda from the same country. After a prolonged legal proceeding, it seems as if Madonna’s effort to bring home a sister for her Malawian son will go in vain.
