2009 has been a pretty good year for red carpet fashion. Actually, it has been a pretty tame year (no shocking dresses or wardrobe malfunctions). But tame doesn’t necessarily mean boring.

Starting our list is a perennial red carpet favorite – Beyonce Knowles. The 27-year old superstar was dazzling in a sequined Elie Saab gown, accessorized with Lorraine Schwartz diamonds.

9. Blake Lively – 2009 Golden Globes
At only 21, Blake Lively looked more elegant than most women twice her age at the 2009 Golden Globes. She arrived in a figure hugging Nina Ricci dress, heavily accessorized with ten pieces of jewelry.

8. Natalie Portman – 2009 Academy Awards
Natalie Portman looked radiant in a pink Rodarte dress accessorized with Stella McCartney shoes and Kwiat jewelry.

7. Melissa Miller – 2009 Grammy Awards
This dress got pounded by bloggers as being “boring and inappropriate” – nuts to that! We think Melissa Miller looked great in this white minidress with black cinch.

6. Marisa Tomei – 2009 Academy Awards
Marisa Tomei is defying her age – looking both stunning and sexy in a flowing Versace gown. For added sparkle, she accessorized with jewels from Van Cleef and Arpels.

5. Halle Berry – Wolverine Premiere
Halle Berry arrived at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in a form-fitting Herve L. Leroux see though dress – at least something at the Wolverine premiere was worth watching.

4. Jessica Alba – 2009 Independent Spirit Awards
Jessica Alba was a refreshing sight at February’s Independent Spirit Awards. She arrived in a lacy lavender dress complemented with nude Mary Jane shoes.

3. Camilla Belle – Push Premiere
At the L.A. premiere of Push, Camilla Belle hit the red carpet in a kaleidoscopic Alexander McQueen minidress. The dress was bizarre and hypnotic (does anyone else see the alien face) – but we couldn’t look away.

2. Beyonce – 2009 BET Awards
Beyonce Knowles looked absolutely stunning at the 9th Annual BET Awards in a colorful Balmain minidress paired with purple stilettos. Miss Sasha Fierce accessorized perfectly with a pair of oversized hoop earrings.

1. Penelope Cruz – 2009 Academy Awards
Style is timeless – a statement that Penelope Cruz proved by donning a 59 year old Balmain dress at the Oscars. She looked fabulous.
